A new partnership in Giethoorn, initiated by Pueblo de Giethoorn, aims to improve hospitality and visitor distribution. Through the collaboration with Giethoorn de Amsterdam, founded by Tulip Tours Holanda, visitors arrive at different time slots. By offering a one-hour boat tour before 1:00 PM in cooperation with local Giethoorn businesses, visitor flow is spread more evenly throughout the day, reducing peak-time congestion.
Spreading Tourists in Giethoorn
Local businesses in Giethoorn are joining forces — including transport services, boat rental companies, restaurants, and local shops — with one shared goal: to better distribute tourists throughout the village. Certain areas in Giethoorn can become overcrowded during peak hours. Through strong partnerships, visitors are guided toward quieter parts of the village, where there are also scenic canals, boat routes, shops, and restaurants.
How Do We Distribute Visitors in Giethoorn?
Coordinated Arrival Times for a Relaxed Visit
By collaborating with transport services from Amsterdam and multiple boat rental companies participating in the Giethoorn Village Partnership, visitors are collected at different time slots. This prevents large crowds from arriving at the village at the same time and helps spread tourism more evenly throughout the day.

Using the sailing and walking routes provided by the Giethoorn App, visitors can start their boat tour in the southern part of the village. This encourages guests to follow different routes than those who arrive by car or bus and enter the village through the central location.
By 2026, visitors from Amsterdam can already start their experience at up to 4 different locations. With more than ten local partners currently involved in the Giethoorn Village Partnership, tourists can begin their journey at multiple points throughout the village. This approach significantly improves boat distribution during the afternoon, ensuring that not all boats pass through the same canal at the same time.

Starting at a boat rental company in the southernmost part of Giethoorn, visitors travel from south to north, reaching the center later in the day. This helps distribute tourists more evenly throughout the village.
